Marion: IT’S JUST LIKE THE RIDE IN DISNEYLAND!!!!! Wait, what’s with the Bazooka?

Action/Comedy/Sci-Fi? (2008)

Well the long-awaited Dr. Jones returns to the big screen and honestly was I hyped. I kept close attention to the film step-by-step and surprisingly found myself slowly getting more & more disappointed. With each CGI sequence getting more interactive with the film I feel that Spielberg just got lazy with the movie. As if he got tired of making the movie half-way through. Yeah yeah yeah, it’s the revolution of CGI but it displaces this Indiana Jones with the previous three. The first three remain in the same atmosphere as the other, and this fourth installment sticks out like a sore-thumb. And not for the best. Not ONLY is there a handful of CGI, but the scenes with the CGI are awful in my opinion (Not unless they really trained those monkeys, or really threw Harrison Ford in a fridge and blew him up [NUKE THE FRIDGE PUN. I KNOW]) The only thing I was satisfied with were the performances. Although, he’s old, he still delivers. (oh boy, how wrong does that sound?) The plot seems to get more and more farfetched (yes, the other plots were farfetched as well, but the subtlety of how to handle the latest plot went out the window) I was excited to see dialogue between Marion and Jones Jr. again, and loved seeing the chemistry reignite. I can’t really explain it, there’s this block that prevents me from being completely satisfied with this movie. Possibly the fact that it sticks out from the previous three makes it very difficult for me to bear. I mean Jones fans have waited long and this is the result we receive? I really wander what Frank Darabont’s script had to offer that Lucas didn’t like so much, but it seems it would’ve been a wiser decision to swing the opposite direction of whatever Lucas & David Koepp was thinking. I loved seeing Ford back with the whip & the hat, but everything that was going on around him seems to have fallen apart. (I was practically screaming in my head that Labeouf had not even been worthy to ATTEMPT to put that hat on his head) This just seemed like a revival of a franchise to sacrifice to the cash cow.

Oh, such a Sweet & Sour experience for me.
